Hello again. Erin here with another edition of Art Journaling for Beginners.
Can I make a confession? No matter how much fun I have creating and designing my own pieces for an Art Journal page, I just LOVE it when a designer does all the hard work for me. Because when they do, all I have to do is play. I just think it is so awesome to actually feel relaxed while making a page and have it turn out just the way I wanted. I love not having to search through my stash, or spend hours constructing the final bit that pulls it all together. I think that is one reason why I like word art so much.
Now I am a wordy person, my husband is patient with me, but I am sure there are times he would like to tell me to just stop talking. I’ve noticed that the same seems to be true with my Art Journaling. I love to use quotes, phrases or even just a word that really speaks into where I am at the moment. I enjoy hand-lettering my physical pages, but when I play digitally I tend to gravitate towards word art. There is just something about the ready-made typography, the emotions that word art brings out, and the simplicity of just plopping it on my page that calls to me. For example, did you see the new Free as a Bird Collection in the Digital Scrapbook Ingredients store?
I absolutely LOVE the entire set, but the word art especially inspired me. I do believe I could make a new page with each and every one of those stamps! Just look at them!
In fact, here is a page that pretty much made itself. The emotions behind the word art made me want to create a lot of space on my page and so it turned out really simple, and I love it. The arty feel in the rest of the bundle really leant to my style and the whole thing just came together pretty easily. The whole page really speaks to me and where I am in life right now.
I encourage you to look at word art for inspiration. Especially if you have a hard time knowing where to start. Let the Designer do the hard work and just have fun. And here is one more page with Free as a Bird. I told, you, I LOVE this Collection!
Check out the DSI store here for some more inspirations.
Thanks for the tip and great art journal samples too. Looks easy but I really do find art journal quite difficult. 🙂
Thank you Edna. I am glad you enjoyed this post.
I am also sorry to hear that you find it to be difficult.
If Art Journaling is something you really want to do, I encourage you to keep doing it. I find that it grows easier in time as you become more comfortable with the process and your own personal style.
When I first started I felt a lot of pressure (mostly from myself) to make pages just like _____ (whoever I was really loving at the moment) or to make pages completely from scratch. It really is a different process than traditional scraping, which is where I started, but as I have grown into it I have found it to be very freeing on so many levels.
Also, I have found that there are times I am feeling really creative and want to spend hours making things extremely arty, and there are times I just want to play and let the designers do the hard work and finish a page quickly. and both techniques are equally valid forms of expression!
Again, thank you for your comments and feel free to let me know if you have any questions!
