Hi again! Erin here with this month’s Art Journaling for Beginners!
One thing I often hear people say is that they want to Art Journal but they just have no idea what to journal about. Choosing a subject to journal about can be daunting when you are first starting out. One thing I encourage people to do is go with their strengths.
Now I am going to assume that if you are reading this then you are probably a Memory Keeper of some sort. That being the case then one strength you possess is your memory keeping, and I would encourage you to take inspiration from your Memory Keeping layouts.
What does that mean? Well, how about an example. This week as I was working with DSI’s new scoop with Misty Seaside Spa. I started thinking about the beach and how soothing it is to me. It really inspired me and so I took some time to play with the kit a bit and get those thoughts and feelings down on a page.
Here is my original layout. The photo is of a massage bed set-up beach side at a resort we went to on vacation some years back. It was just so relaxing and beautiful I had to take a photo, and just looking at the photo, even years later, I start to relax again.
And here is my art Journal page that was inspired by the above layout.
So that is my challenge to you this month. If you are really wanting to try some Art Journaling, then let your Memory Keeping inspire you. When you find yourself being inspired by your memories, take the time to let it out and you might be surprised with the results!
Now some might ask – why should I Art Journal about something I am already making a Scrapbook Layout about? That is a fair question, and a lot of people don’t, but I find that my Art Journal pages are for me, and only me! I learn so much about myself through the process and I have a record of what I learned to look back at later. I could have stopped with the Scrapbook Layout, it certainly was sufficient, but I really wanted something just for me, something that documented the realization I had at that moment, and so I did a quick Art Journal page as well.
It is up to you really, and depends on what you want to get out of it. I have come to find that my Memory Keeping really is inspiring in so many ways! I hope it inspires you too!
